Had a couple of regulars today, Pat, Fred, and Mary Beth as we dial in on the sea bass spot catching keepers with tons of shorts in the mix. We started catching some nice sea bass and some fluke. . Happy Birthday Mary Beth, hope we made it a memorable one. See you guys in 2 weeks.
So.... my Hero, Chloe brought her family back to do combat with slob monster sea bass and ling a dings... first time meeting the rest of her family. She and brother Will out did mom and dad on the catching but I expected no less?
Family... We talked about those who regularly fish with us as being that a couple weeks ago Family members Carlos and Lucas joined us on a tuna run last night and today.... Thanks to the intel a number of friends gave me , picking a spot was pretty easy. Glassy seas greeted us for the 50 odd mile run. We arrived in the dark and deployed our spread...
Mere seconds passed before the outtrigger ballyhoo got slammed... As I re rigged, flat line cedar plugs were next to get crushed Fish in the box. In the dim first hints of light we saw fish on the surface. I fired a jig at them, one crank and it was game in. Then the flat lines cedar joined the party again. Then the outriggers again. Before the sun broke the horizon we were in release mode...
We had a special treat in the midst of it... A nice king Mackerel... The sun rose and the bite died off with just one more bite before heading back to home port.... All in all a great day with great people...
Today's group more fathers sons..I was impressed that the dads manned up and wore PDFs as well as the boys who were required to.Slow start then we dialed them in! Loads of 17 and 17 1/2" shorts.A hand full of 18-20" keepers. Robins and sharks rounded things out. Then today was the day of the rays.Released two and the third became "scallops" Good time had by all!!
Today's group arrived a couple minutes late but that's ok. It was to be a half day fluke run like so many others. They mentioned an interest in sea bassso we altered course to a place we could catch both.First sea bass rig was hammered as it reached the bottom.Keeper! The bite was on fire with great percentage being more keepers and we had out limit in about 20 mins.
Sincewe scored no fluke there we went back where we have had a good action the last few days. Izabelle dropped and put the reel in gear. The rod instantly doubled up.Bottom snag?Nope it moved!Painfully slow getting it to the surface. Then we saw it!Hard to fit in the net!!
Wepicked at shorts and keepers but flukezilla has our full attendtion.Time passed then another heavy figh.this time a Stargazer!A monster 8 pound one atb that. The fluke monster scaled at 13 pounds! So much for just another boring half fday fluke trip!
