The word " customer" is far too impersonal." client" a little better but still not the right description for those people who fish with us on regular basis. " Family"... Bingo! Thatsit!... carlos is so regular with us that "Family fits"..The third stooge if you will.He saw we had a busy shark run the other day and jumped on today's trip. He knew there was action but hedesperately wanted a Thresher...
I had a game plan that i felt goodwould produce. The guy at the fuel dock was adamant that we started too late but wished us good luck..I laid up west of where i fished wenesday and did a shallow to deep drift..no love. Not even a brown shark. We moved east for deep to shallow drift. The water wasvwarmer than i like and hideous light dirty green. The slick stretched and we baked in the sun.Wind puking out would make the drift harder and was happening. "paul" carlos called out as i was in the bow.I asked if the bait got whipped.Nope just a slow pull.I was about to inspect and see what happened when my closest bait started to run off.It came tight and heaithy thresher popped up top! Then all went slack.Thecircle hook hadn't found its mark. I wanted to be sick then felt the fish take the bait again.I let iteat like it felt forever.High noon when i threw the leverdrag on the reel in gear.Game on!The 30W sounded like a harley in heat as the beast opened the gap between us.The next forty- five minutes were done masterfully by all aboard.
arlos gave no slack and capitalized on each mistake. Then gametime... Louie leadered and set the fly gaff home.Reactions was expected special.Lots of slamming and writhing and of course that tail cracking like a whip always gets the adrenaline going. The chaos short lived.things got quiet. We loadedthe 13-14' beast aboard Reel Happy and pointed at the beach.... 70 quart cooler packed with steaks made the trip to my car as well.Carlos toting his 6 1/2 foot tail to the parking lot rounded it all out..Game set match..Gotta love when a game plan comes together...
